Nagorno Karabakh, June 2008, page 1

We were visiting Armenia for two years before we got this chance to visit Karabakh. We finally made it this summer and it was well worth the wait. A land of rolling green hills, mature forests and winding rivers, the most spectacular thing is the scenery. But we found a few other things of interest too....

veiw over Stepanakert

These first pictures show the view over Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno Karabakh, from a nearby hill and the Papik Tatik monument: the sculpture of grandmother and grandfather of the mountains which crowns the hill. The last picture was taken from the foot of the hill, looking in the opposite direction from Stepanakert.

Here are a couple of pictures of an interesting wall in Stepanakert and an 'up the waistcoat' shot of the fierce looking dude who stares out over the central square.

The three pictures above and rest of those below are of Gandzasar Monastery and the surrounding landscape. This is the seat of the Archbishop of Artsakh and a spectacular place to visit.

I liked the carvings on the walls and floors. And here's a picture of Sveta caught in a sunbeam.
