Here's another set of pics from one of South east Asia's fantastic cities. KL is a great place to wander about. There are lots of old British colonial buildings in crazy hybrid styles set next to modern architectural wonders. You can observe the influence of the Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures which share the peninsula and the ways in which they interrelate and compliment each other. And everything is interspersed with lush tropical vegetation. What a magnificent city.
Here's a shot of some old colonial buildings in a kind of Islamo-gothic style against a backdrop of modern KL. The middle picture is the main mosque and the last is of some old Chinese shop-houses.
We stayed in the Hotel Malaya in the heart of China town. The centre is a view from the window and on the right is a scary sculpture from the Chinese temple round the corner. The one at the end is the roof of a Hindu temple close by.
It's Christmas everywhere nowadays... We went to the top of the KL tower and in the centre you can see what we could from the top. After that we went to Batu Caves.
The caves house various hindu shrines and temples... and lot's of cheeky monkeys.
The last two photos here are from Georgetown on Penang Island, but I thought I'd just squeeze them in here...
