Uncle Sydney's low fat, low calorie, diet meal

My Uncle Sydney was the Scottish veteran weight-lifting champion once. At New Year parties he used to show off by doing one-arm push-ups. Then he would get my brother or me to sit on his back while he did a few more.

Uncle Sydney also worked in a fitness centre where he showed people how to use the various pieces of equipment and advised them on sensible exercise routines. He gets irritated when people discuss the latest fashionable weight-loss diet plans and says they are designed just as much for lining the inventor's pocket as for helping people to lose weight and that some of them can also be harmful. Uncle Sydney insists that his simple programme is as good as any and better than most. He cites himself and other championship weight-lifters, who have used his method to successfully bring their weight down while training hard, without any ill effects.

If you look at the list of ingredients below, I think you'll agree that it would be difficult to make much money from Uncle Sydney's formula. There's no secret Himalayan herb in there. Nothing that could be claimed to be ancient wisdom revealed. No major selling points, really. But here's why this diet is so successful if you keep it up for a few weeks. If you substitute Uncle Sydney's diet meal for any one of your usual daily meals (even breakfast), the three pieces of fruit will be enough to make you feel full, and you won't want to eat anything else until your next meal as usual. As the fruit is virtually fat free and fairly low in carbohydrate, your daily calorie intake will be reduced.

Although low in fat and carbohydrate, this meal is high in fruit sugars, which means that those exercising or working hard get an essential blast of energy to keep them going. The apple and the orange especially, give an instant burst of energy, while the banana continues to burn away slowly for a few hours, keeping you going till your next meal.

Sounds good, huh? And we didn't even mention the high fibre and vitamin content.

Ingredients

1 apple
1 orange
1 banana

The technique is fairly simple. Peel the banana and orange (the apple too if you like) and eat everything. You could also chop the fruit up to make a fruit salad.
