Radish salad

Radishes are nice looking vegetables, but not many people have a clue what to do with them besides slicing them and adding them to a plate of sliced tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce leaves, thus making the already bland traditional British salad even more unappealing.

Here's a simple wee radish recipe for the next time your granddad, uncle, or next door neighbour gives you a bunch. It won't change your life - at the end of the day they're still radishes, but you might be pleasantly surprised.

Ingredients

A big handful of radishes - any kind
A bunch of fresh coriander
A few whole black peppercorns
2 or 3 tablepoons of oil
A pinch of salt

Wash the radishes well but don't peel them unless they're big rough-skinned ones. Slice them thinly then cut the slices into matchsticks. Chop the coriander, crush the peppercorns and mix everything together.

If you've got a load of radishes you could stir fry some of them too.
